Fire safety upgrade for Costa Coffee flagship store
JCB Fire Ltd partnered with Hochiki to provide a state-of-the-art fire detection system for Costa Coffee’s new flagship store at Touchwood Shopping Centre in Solihull.
The store, located in the popular shopping centre which welcomes over 13 million visitors annually, required a comprehensive fire safety solution.
The system needed to integrate with existing infrastructure, including security and sprinkler systems, while meeting Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliance requirements.
Hochiki’s fire detection devices were selected for their flexibility and innovative design.
Their open protocol capability ensures compatibility with various fire alarm control panels, making them adaptable to different system configurations.
Innovative fire detection solutions ensure safety
The installation included Hochiki’s ESP range of sensors, which offer features such as electronics-free mounting bases, easy addressing, and versatile detection options, including smoke, heat, and multi-criteria detection.
The system enhances visibility for individuals with hearing impairments and improves alarm audibility, enabling efficient evacuation of all occupants.
These features align with Costa Coffee’s commitment to creating a safe environment for customers and staff.
Grant Wheeler, General Manager at JCB Fire, commented on the partnership’s success: “The successful installation at the Solihull store was completed in less than a week by our client Otec Electrical, demonstrating the effectiveness of our partnership with Hochiki.
“We combined our expertise with Hochiki’s innovative technology to ensure the safety and security of Costa Coffee’s customers and staff.”
Efficient project execution and collaboration
The fire detection system was commissioned and installed within a tight timeframe of one week.
This rapid deployment was made possible by the seamless integration of Hochiki’s devices and the expertise of Otec Electrical.
The project showcases the capability of Hochiki’s ESP range to meet the demands of busy retail environments.
