ASFP joins Climate Action for Associations

ASFP confirms membership in climate action network

The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) has joined Climate Action for Associations (CAFA).

The ASFP announced its membership on 26 September 2025.

According to the organisation, the decision reflects a commitment to integrating sustainability within its operations and across the passive fire protection industry.

The ASFP said its aim is to support members in building a resilient, low-carbon future.

CAFA is a network and resource platform focused on net zero and sustainability for membership organisations.

The organisation provides guidance, tools and peer-to-peer collaboration to help associations show leadership and take action on climate goals.

CAFA is a not-for-profit and an official accelerator for the United Nations-backed Race to Zero campaign.

Its work is aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

CAFA resources and partnerships supporting industry sustainability

CAFA collaborates with the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

The SBTi offers a framework for companies to set and validate greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with climate science.

Its targets are used to help organisations develop measurable, science-based pathways towards achieving the Paris Agreement objectives.

CAFA provides access to several resources in partnership with SBTi.

These include a communications toolkit, a climate change communications guide and an open-access resource library.

CAFA said these materials are designed to help member organisations understand, communicate and act on sustainability goals.

ASFP encourages members to engage with CAFA initiatives

ASFP Operations Director Nadine Saxon said: “We are proud to have joined CAFA and begin our journey towards supporting more sustainable practises, both in-house and for our members.

“It also allows us to support the industry in building awareness of the long-term importance of climate responsibility.

“The road towards Net Zero is a long one, but a crucial one that we believe the passive fire industry plays a vital role in.

“We encourage all of our members to explore the resources CAFA have to offer, and any member organisations we work alongside to join on to continue the progress they have made towards creating a more sustainable future.”

Relevance for fire and safety professionals

ASFP’s membership in Climate Action for Associations may be relevant to professionals involved in passive fire protection, building standards and construction safety.

The initiative could influence how industry organisations integrate environmental responsibility within their own frameworks.

Those responsible for specifying or approving fire protection materials may see an increase in sustainability-focused guidelines.

Architects, engineers and building safety managers may benefit from the availability of CAFA’s Science Based Targets Initiative resources.

The collaboration may also shape industry discussions about how fire protection and sustainability objectives can align within regulatory and operational contexts.
