HS2 awards Booth Industries £7.5m contract

Booth Industries has announced it will supply high-integrity steel doorsets for HS2’s Old Oak Common station under a contract worth more than £7.5 million.

According to Booth Industries, the company will manufacture the specialist doors at its Bolton facility and provide installation and maintenance support for the project.

The business confirmed that Old Oak Common will become one of the UK’s busiest rail hubs, connecting HS2 with the Elizabeth Line and National Rail services.

Booth said the new doors will be designed to withstand a wide range of performance requirements, providing fire integrity, secure access control and long-term passenger protection.

The company noted that the design life of the station requires robust construction to maintain safety standards throughout its operation.

Follow-on TfL contract for Elizabeth Line maintenance

Booth Industries reported that alongside the HS2 award, it has secured a new multi-year contract to maintain tunnel doors on the Elizabeth Line for Transport for London.

The organisation stated that the extension reflects the strength of its service capability, combining decades of industry expertise with ongoing maintenance operations.

Mike Jenkinson, managing director of Booth Industries, said: “These new contracts are great news for our business and recognise the wide range of expertise available at Booth.

“We are delighted that BBVS selected us for the HS2 work. This reflects the value placed on our unmatched design and manufacturing expertise that has been developed over decades and honed, more-recently, through our work for a variety of high-profile projects including Crossrail, the Northern Line extension and earlier phases of HS2.

“The TfL contract extension highlights the effectiveness of our maintenance offer, which we have worked hard to develop over recent years. This combines decades of industry expertise with a market-leading service offering to ensure performance-critical infrastructure operates effectively and safely throughout its working life.”

Previous HS2 contract awarded earlier in 2025

Booth Industries confirmed that in January this year it was awarded a £4.5 million contract to provide pressure-rated fire doors for a different phase of the HS2 project.

The company explained that the earlier award, together with the new contract for Old Oak Common, highlights its continuing role in the delivery of the HS2 programme.

It added that the combination of manufacturing, engineering, installation and long-term service allows it to support all phases of complex infrastructure projects.

Booth Industries’ role in UK transport safety

Booth Industries stated that the Old Oak Common project further strengthens its position in UK transport safety.

The organisation explained that its portfolio includes previous work on Crossrail, the Northern Line extension and other infrastructure schemes.

It added that the new HS2 contract demonstrates confidence in its ability to supply and maintain safety-critical products in large-scale environments.

Avingtrans comments on new contracts

Austen Adams, divisional managing director of Avingtrans PLC’s Advanced Engineering Solutions division, said: “It is great news that Booth Industries has once again been chosen to support performance-critical parts of our nation’s rail infrastructure through these two, high-profile contracts.

“The Booth name is synonymous with high-integrity doorsets that meet the most-demanding safety and performance standards and its reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects around the globe continues to grow.

“The team recently developed a new range of market-leading doorsets that offer unparalleled fire performance of more than four hours. The lessons learned from this innovation helped inform the designs for the new HS2 contract, and underscore our commitment to investing in people, plant and process to position Booth as the specialist provider for high-integrity doorsets around the world.”

Relevance for fire and safety professionals

Fire and safety professionals will note the role of specialist doorsets in managing risk within complex transport environments.

The HS2 Old Oak Common project demonstrates how engineered fire and access control measures are integrated at the design stage to support passenger safety.

The long-term maintenance agreement with TfL also highlights the operational requirement for sustained safety assurance beyond installation.

The contracts provide an example of how safety-critical products are procured and maintained within large-scale public infrastructure.
