A landmark achievement in health and safety

The British Safety Council has disclosed the winners of its esteemed International Safety Awards for 2023, marking the highest number of accolades distributed globally for excellence in health, safety, and wellbeing.

This year’s awards saw 773 organisations from diverse sectors and sizes across 44 countries, including the UK, China, India, and the Middle East, among others, receive recognition for their commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

This achievement represents a substantial increase from the previous year, with the number of awards rising from 549 in 2022 to 773.

The awards were categorized into Distinction, Merit, and Pass, with 138, 298, and 337 organisations receiving each accolade, respectively.

The rise in successful applications highlights the growing emphasis and dedication towards workplace health and safety standards globally.

Celebrating global commitment to safety

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of British Safety Council, expressed his enthusiasm for the record-breaking number of awards this year: “Our International Safety Awards recognise the highest achievements of organisations around the world in health, safety and wellbeing.

I am thrilled that a record number of organisations have attained that level and won an award.” He further emphasized the importance of prioritising health and safety, especially in the face of increasing global risks such as climate change and instability.

The 2023 winners represent a wide range of sectors, with significant contributions from the construction, manufacturing, oil, gas, and mining industries.

Notable winners include Kier Infrastructure and Overseas Ltd, L&T Construction, and China Construction Seventh Engineering Division. Corp. Ltd.

These awards serve not only as a testament to the winners’ dedication to safety but also as an encouragement for other organisations to integrate health and safety into their core business values.

Upcoming celebrations and further recognitions

The British Safety Council has planned two celebratory events in May to honour the award winners, with ceremonies scheduled in Mumbai and London.

Additionally, other categories such as the Seize the Opportunity Award, CEO Award, and Health and Safety Transformation Award, sponsored by Croner-i, will be announced at the London Gala Dinner.

These awards highlight the importance of leadership, innovation, and the overall contribution to health and safety culture within organisations.

The James Tye Award and the Wellbeing Initiative Award, powered by Being Well Together, are among the other recognitions that will be highlighted, underlining the vital role of campaigns and initiatives in promoting workplace safety and wellbeing.
