Ofsted praises training quality at Capita’s Fire Service College
Capita’s Fire Service College (FSC) has been rated as a ‘Good’ apprenticeship provider with ‘Outstanding’ features in its latest Ofsted inspection.
Located in Moreton-in-Marsh, FSC plays a significant role in training firefighters who protect critical infrastructure.
Ofsted highlighted that apprentices at FSC swiftly develop advanced skills and knowledge.
The report noted that tutors have high expectations, which apprentices consistently meet.
Key areas such as behaviour, attitudes, and personal development were rated ‘Outstanding’.
At the time of the inspection, 280 apprentices were enrolled in the Level 3 Operational Firefighter Apprenticeship programme.
Training methods at FSC emphasised by Ofsted
The training at FSC includes simulated scenarios in various settings, such as tower blocks, aircraft, and domestic environments.
These realistic simulations allow apprentices to gain practical, hands-on experience in dealing with complex fire incidents.
According to Ofsted’s findings, this approach ensures that apprentices are prepared to handle real-life situations confidently and safely.
Apprentices benefit from personalised training, which enables them to grow in their roles.
The use of modern technologies, such as virtual reality (VR) headsets, enhances the learning experience, making it more interactive and effective.
FSC director comments on Ofsted recognition
Clair Mowbray, Director of the Fire Service College, stated: “This recognition from Ofsted is credit to everyone at the Fire Service College involved in developing and delivering world-class training and learning that equips apprentice firefighters with the knowledge, skills and confidence to help them excel in their careers.”
Mowbray also mentioned that the college continues to invest in the latest technologies to ensure apprentices receive the most engaging and applicable training.
She added that FSC remains committed to supporting apprentices in building resilience and confidence throughout their training.
Future developments at FSC
FSC remains focused on enhancing its training capabilities and staying at the forefront of firefighter education.
By continuing to invest in cutting-edge technologies and ensuring that apprentices receive the highest standard of education, FSC aims to maintain its position as a leading institution in firefighter training.
The incorporation of VR and other innovative tools into the curriculum reflects the college’s commitment to providing training that is relevant to modern firefighting challenges.
