Madrid startup targets outdated systems in fire protection

Cofrai, a Madrid-based startup, has raised €2 million in seed funding to expand its digital platform for the fire protection industry.

According to Tech Funding News (TFN), the round was led by DFF Ventures with support from industry backers.

The company’s platform digitises and automates core processes such as scheduling, invoicing, technician tracking and regulatory compliance for fire protection businesses.

TFN reported that Cofrai is positioning its platform as a full-stack alternative to spreadsheets and legacy systems still used across the sector.

The company aims to provide an AI-powered system tailored to Spain’s regulatory environment, including RIPCI and Verifactu compliance requirements.

Founders and early growth

Cofrai was founded in 2024 by Rafael Gorjao, Antonio Acevedo and Javier Goitia.

TFN reported that the firm launched its minimum viable product just over a year ago and has since signed nearly 100 customers.

The customer base includes some of Spain’s leading fire protection companies, it added.

Goitia said: “It’s an essential sector for everyone’s safety, but digitally it remains stuck in the past. We want to close that gap with the best technology.”

Gorjao added: “Our goal is ambitious: for Cofrai to become the industry standard, helping every fire protection company operate more efficiently, stay compliant, and grow with the technology they truly deserve.”

Backing from investors

DFF Ventures led the funding round with participation from sector specialists.

TFN reported that Laurens Groenendijk, general partner at DFF Ventures and founder of Just Eat and Treatwell, highlighted the importance of modernisation.

Groenendijk said: “Fire protection is critical for everyone’s safety, yet most companies worldwide still rely on outdated, inefficient systems.

“Cofrai gives them full operational visibility, automatic regulatory compliance, and an AI layer that removes repetitive tasks.

“The opportunity here is enormous, and Cofrai is perfectly positioned to lead it.”

Competitive environment

According to TFN, Cofrai is competing against international firms such as Firemate and Reconomy Fire Solutions.

These companies provide partial digital tools for fire protection businesses.

Cofrai aims to stand out by offering a full-stack platform specifically designed for Spain’s regulations and supported by AI automation.

TFN reported that the company views this local focus as a key advantage in differentiating its product.

Planned expansion

TFN reported that Cofrai intends to follow the model of vertical SaaS firms that have reshaped industries such as hospitality and construction.

The company will first consolidate its position in Spain.

It then plans to expand internationally once product development and customer support functions have been strengthened.

TFN added that Cofrai intends to use the new funding to grow its engineering team and accelerate product development.

Relevance for fire and safety professionals

Cofrai’s platform demonstrates how AI and SaaS tools are beginning to influence the fire protection industry.

The company’s focus on Spain-specific compliance rules highlights the growing role of digital systems in regulatory alignment.

Professionals may find relevance in how Cofrai aims to cut administrative workload, track technicians and provide operational visibility.

The funding also reflects a broader trend of investment in fire safety technology firms seeking to replace outdated practices.
