Final appliances delivered to West Yorkshire by Emergency One
Emergency One has completed the final delivery of 52 fire appliances for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
According to Emergency One, the final two pumping appliances were recently handed over, concluding a build contract that involved the delivery of one vehicle per week on average.
The company said the programme remained on schedule throughout the rollout, with all vehicles built to West Yorkshire’s operational and safety specifications.
The vehicles are set to become fully operational across the region, with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirming they have now joined the fleet.
Glynn Richardson, Head of Transport & Logistics for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “These appliances are a great addition to our fleet.
“They provide more efficient operational systems and, crucially, safer working conditions for our firefighters, whether that’s through improved locker layouts, updated technology or clean cab solutions.”
Specification includes enhanced safety and welfare features
Emergency One reported that the vehicles delivered to West Yorkshire differ from standard pumping appliances through several tailored design elements.
Each appliance includes a 2500-litre water tank, aimed at increasing adaptability during varied response scenarios.
The manufacturer explained that the design also includes pull-out breathing apparatus lockers on both sides of the appliance, adjustable for firefighter height.
At the rear of the vehicle, a contaminated kit stowage locker and full access step were included as part of the fire service’s clean cab initiative.
Emergency One noted that a power beam ladder gantry was integrated to automatically lower ladders to a safe working height.
According to the company, this feature was added to address the higher body of the vehicle caused by additional locker space and a larger water tank.
Emergency One highlights production and delivery scale
Emergency One stated that the contract required consistent and coordinated production efforts to maintain the weekly delivery schedule.
Brian Girvan, Production Director at Emergency One, said: “Delivering 52 appliances in this kind of schedule is a real achievement, and it’s a testament to the commitment of our build and support teams.
“More importantly, we’re proud to deliver vehicles that not only meet the operational needs of West Yorkshire but also help enhance firefighter safety and support cleaner, more modern working environments.”
The company confirmed that all appliances met the requested build standards throughout the process.
It also added that the completion of the contract reaffirms its capacity to deliver large-scale fleet builds within agreed timeframes.
Firefighter welfare supported through detailed cab design
Emergency One explained that crew comfort and welfare were a specific design focus within the cab.
It reported that the appliances feature improved seating, integrated USB charging points, and cup holders to support longer response periods.
The Cross Cab system, included in the new design, provides designated space for personal protective equipment, documents, and other crew items.
According to the manufacturer, the design supports clear separation of clean and potentially contaminated equipment.
This, it stated, is intended to reduce the risk of prolonged firefighter exposure to harmful residues following incidents.
Emergency One continues focus on UK-based production
Emergency One described the delivery as part of its continued production of bespoke fire and rescue vehicles within the UK.
The company noted that all vehicles were designed and manufactured in line with the operational needs of UK fire and rescue services.
It added that design changes made to the West Yorkshire fleet reflect sector-wide shifts towards improving firefighter welfare, contamination control, and vehicle ergonomics.
Emergency One stated that its approach to customisation allows services to specify features that align with their own response environments and policy frameworks.
The company confirmed that other regional fleets are also adopting similar appliance specifications in upcoming build programmes.
