Fire-Dex appoints Ben Pfahl to lead technology operations
Fire-Dex has announced the appointment of Ben Pfahl as its new Chief Information Officer.
According to Fire-Dex, the United States-based PPE manufacturer, the newly created executive position will oversee enterprise technology strategy and lead the company’s Information Technology team.
The company explained that Pfahl’s appointment is part of its wider commitment to advancing digital transformation and improving data security.
It added that his responsibilities will include aligning IT operations across Fire-Dex and its subsidiary company, Gear Wash.
Fire-Dex stated that the announcement follows wider changes in company leadership, including the planned 2026 transition of Lauren Burke DeVere to CEO.
Pfahl brings over 20 years of digital leadership experience
Fire-Dex reported that Pfahl previously served as Vice President of IT & Digitalization and Regional CIO – Americas at Schaeffler Group.
During his time with the automotive and industrial supplier, he led technology transformation projects and introduced enterprise systems including SAP.
He also managed the cross-regional integration of IT operations across North and South America.
Fire-Dex said his professional background reflects a long-standing emphasis on aligning IT systems with business goals and measurable results.
Pfahl holds a bachelor’s degree in management information systems and international business, as well as an MBA from Ashland University.
New appointment follows changes to executive structure
Fire-Dex explained that Pfahl’s appointment is part of a wider leadership transition underway within the company.
Earlier in 2025, Fire-Dex CEO Steve Allison confirmed plans to retire in 2026.
As part of the succession plan, Lauren Burke DeVere will become CEO and John Karban, currently Vice President of Operations, will take over as President.
The company said the addition of a CIO role supports this transition by introducing further oversight of technology strategy at the executive level.
DeVere said: “Ben’s appointment marks an important milestone as Fire-Dex continues to scale its operations and invest in forward-thinking solutions.
“His track record of aligning technology with business strategy, leading high-performing teams and driving measurable results will be instrumental as we build the next generation of tools and services for our customers.”
CIO role supports digital initiatives such as virtual sizing tool
Fire-Dex stated that the appointment builds on its recent technological developments, including the introduction of its Virtual Sizer tool.
The AI-powered tool was designed to streamline the firefighter PPE fitting process using digital measurement inputs.
According to the company, the system has reduced the need for manual measuring and improved fitting accuracy.
The manufacturer said the Virtual Sizer reflects its broader goal to develop tools that serve the needs of end users with reliability and consistency.
It added that the appointment of a dedicated CIO will help support similar developments in future.
Pfahl said: “I’m honoured to join a mission-driven organisation like Fire-Dex, whose values of protection, service and ingenuity strongly resonate with me.
“I look forward to working alongside the executive team and our dedicated IT professionals to deliver solutions that support our people, partners and customers.”
Ohio-based CIO brings personal and community experience
According to Fire-Dex, Pfahl resides in Medina, Ohio, with his wife and three children.
The company said he is actively involved in community activities, including coaching the Medina High School Girls Rugby Team.
It added that his appointment reflects a combination of technical expertise, leadership experience and alignment with the company’s values.
Pfahl’s professional and personal profile was cited as part of Fire-Dex’s wider aim to expand its leadership capacity during a period of growth and digital development.
