Fire Protection Association membership review published for 2025/26

The Fire Protection Association (FPA) has published its 2025/26 Membership Review, outlining updates to member benefits, access to fire safety guidance and professional development.

According to the FPA, the review reflects changes introduced during 2025 to its membership scheme and the range of technical resources available to members.

Membership provides access to fire safety advice, guidance and resources, including continuing professional development (CPD) and education opportunities aimed at supporting competence across the sector.

Guidance expansion, member influence and CPD activity

In 2025, the FPA refreshed its membership structure following member feedback and introduced three category types intended to give organisations of different sizes access to appropriate levels of technical advice and guidance.

The updated scheme also introduced additional benefits linked to collaboration, influence and ongoing CPD.

During 2025, members received priority access to new and updated publications including Sprinkler System Service and Maintenance: Guidance, Records and Checklists and The Joint Code of Practice on the Protection from Fire of Construction Sites and Buildings Undergoing Renovation – Tenth Edition Incorporating Amendments 1 and 2.

Further documents included RC70: Recommendations for Risk Control for Switchgear and Transformers, RC69: Risk Control Recommendations for Onshore Wind Turbines and Business Continuity for Small and Medium Businesses.

Membership also provides opportunities to contribute to FPA guidance, research carried out for insurers, government, regulators and industry, and responses to consultations.

During 2025, members were able to share views on the Building Safety Regulator to inform the House of Lords inquiry into building regulations, suggest topics for the FIRE Conference 2025 programme, provide feedback on new and updated documents and propose areas for future guidance and research.

The CPD programme included approved webinars covering legislative updates, passive fire protection, insurance risk and research developments.

Members also gained access to introductory e-courses addressing hot works, the role of a fire warden, the basics of fire door inspections and personal emergency evacuation plans (PEEPS).

As part of the refreshed scheme, the FPA introduced a Membership Code of Professional Conduct requiring new and renewing members to commit to standards of integrity, professional behaviour and professional competency.

The review makes clear that membership does not accredit or endorse member products or services.

Events, journal coverage and 2026 programme

The Fire & Risk Management (F&RM) journal covered topics in 2025 including the fire safety journey of a building, active protection, building fire safety and law and enforcement.

Additional themes included products and procurement, facilities and fire, organisational culture and approaches to safety and transport-related fire risks.

The FIRE Conference 2025, held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, centred on future-proofing the built environment and featured sessions on leadership, wildfire detection, regulatory evolution and emerging risks.

Looking ahead, the 2026 programme includes a webinar schedule and research projects delivered through the RISCAuthority research scheme, covering active fire protection, timber construction, moisture management, hybrid buildings, SMART towers and emerging risks.

James Stone, FPA Membership and Marketing Manager, said: “Given the significant changes to the fire safety landscape, it is more important now than ever that we support members ensure we are meeting their needs.

“Their feedback shaped our refreshed membership categories, influenced new guidance, and steered our research priorities.

“The expanded access to technical resources showcased in this review is a direct result of our ongoing dialogue with our members.”

Dr Gavin Dunn, FPA Chief Executive, said: “The Membership Review highlights the FPA’s unwavering focus on ensuring that every member, whether an individual practitioner or a larger organisation, has the guidance and tools required to support them with the challenges they face on a daily basis.

“The breadth of new material and opportunities made available in 2025 demonstrates our continued commitment to raising standards across the sector.”
