Safety Letterbox Company addresses new fire safety regulations

The Safety Letterbox Company, a UK-based manufacturer, has collaborated with Abloy UK to develop a customised Sentry CL811 Camlock for use in Secure Information Boxes.

These boxes are designed to meet updated safety requirements for high-rise buildings under The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022.

These regulations, introduced following the Grenfell Tower disaster, came into effect in January 2023.

They require high-rise residential buildings over 18 metres or new builds over 11 metres to maintain and store critical building plans and emergency contact details in Secure Information Boxes.

These boxes ensure quick accessibility for firefighters during emergencies.

Meeting high security and compliance standards

The Safety Letterbox Company’s Secure Information Box complies with the latest legislation and strict security standards, including BS EN 1303 and Secured by Design certification STS205 BR2.

These certifications ensure that the boxes are suitable for internal or external use and provide robust protection.

Jon Parry, Commercial Manager at The Safety Letterbox Company, said: “Since the introduction of the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022, there has been a huge appetite for our Secure Information Box.

“We worked collaboratively with Abloy UK and valued them as a trusted advisor to create a unique and bespoke Sentry CL811 Camlock for use within the solution.”

Abloy UK’s role in the project

Abloy UK played a key role in developing a locking mechanism tailored to meet the specific requirements of these Secure Information Boxes.

Shaun Powell, General Sales Manager – OEM at Abloy UK, said: “At Abloy UK, we are committed to providing high-quality locking solutions that meet the strict safety and security standards required for critical applications.”

The bespoke camlock was designed in partnership with The Safety Letterbox Company’s in-house research and development team.

The collaboration demonstrates the importance of combining expertise to address evolving safety needs effectively.

Future developments in secure solutions

The Safety Letterbox Company is currently expanding its product line in collaboration with Abloy UK.

New designs are being developed to further enhance fire safety solutions in high-rise residential buildings.

Parry added: “We are proud to currently be the only British manufacturer producing this product in the UK.

“Our in-house research and development team has plans to evolve the range further in partnership with Abloy UK, and they are currently developing innovative new products that we are excited to launch in the future.”
