Fire safety training for construction professionals announced
Global Academy, the training division of Global HSE Group, has announced the launch of three new fire safety qualifications aimed at improving industry standards.
The courses are designed to equip professionals with essential skills and knowledge to ensure fire safety compliance across various sectors.
Each qualification includes three days of practical training, and upon successful completion, participants receive an industry-recognised certification accredited by the Awarding Body of the Built Environment (ABBE).
The introduction of these qualifications reflects Global’s commitment to enhancing fire safety expertise within the construction industry, with the courses being tailored for passive fire protection installers.
The training has been developed by industry experts, ensuring that it provides practical and relevant skills to meet the demands of the sector.
Course development led by industry experts
The new courses have been carefully crafted by Global HSE Group’s team of passive fire safety specialists, ensuring a comprehensive learning framework.
Chris Sharman, Head of Technical and Training at Global Academy, leads the teaching team, which includes a group of experienced passive fire protection installers.
The development of the course was overseen by Ross O’Loughlin, Director of Global Technical Services and former Chief of Staff at the fire training MOD school, and written by Nigel Craven, the former Group Manager at West Yorkshire Fire Service.
O’Loughlin stated: “We are taking the right steps to professionalise an area of construction that has been neglected.”
Upgraded training facility in Bingham
Global Academy has also invested in upgrading its Bingham training facility to support the new fire safety courses.
The facility now features state-of-the-art equipment, including fire doors and passive fire installations, to provide trainees with hands-on experience during their course.
This investment ensures that participants will gain practical knowledge in a modern training environment, tailored to the specific needs of passive fire protection.
By enhancing their facilities and incorporating practical elements into the course structure, Global Academy is aiming to deliver a more immersive and effective training experience for fire safety professionals.
Industry needs addressed by new qualifications
Global Academy’s new qualifications were developed in response to a recognised need within the industry for proven competency in fire safety, particularly in passive fire installation.
O’Loughlin emphasised the importance of this training, saying: “Passive fire installation is a critical element, and if those installers do not fully appreciate the need and relevance of the work, then they won’t take the care and effort required.”
The courses are designed to ensure that fire safety professionals possess both the theoretical understanding and practical skills required to meet compliance standards, addressing a gap in the sector that Global identified through its own experience in fire safety contracting and consultancy.
