Courtfield Lodge care home upgrades fire protection
Hyfire has reported that Courtfield Lodge, a residential and dementia care home in Ormskirk, has been fitted with its Taurus wireless fire alarm system.
The company explained that the upgrade was carried out as the facility’s existing fire safety equipment no longer met modern requirements.
According to Hyfire, We Care Group, which owns Courtfield Lodge, made the decision to replace the system to ensure compliance with national regulations and to strengthen protection for residents and staff.
The care home, established in 1989, provides accommodation for adults aged over 65.
Hyfire added that the installation was completed without disruption to the daily operation of the facility.
Regulatory compliance for UK care homes
Hyfire noted that care homes in the United Kingdom must comply with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
These laws require care home managers and owners to ensure that fire safety measures are adequate and that staff are prepared to respond in the event of an emergency.
The company explained that local fire authorities carry out inspections to verify compliance with these requirements.
It added that wireless fire detection systems can support care homes in meeting both regulatory standards and operational needs.
Taurus wireless system deployment
According to Hyfire, its Taurus wireless devices can be installed in buildings of varying size and age.
The company said that the system was selected for Courtfield Lodge following a survey that identified it as a suitable option.
It explained that installation was completed quickly and without the need to restrict access to any part of the building.
Hyfire added that the wireless design supports rapid deployment and simple management.
Industry concerns on care home fire safety
Hyfire reported that recent industry commentary has raised concerns about fire safety competence in UK care homes.
It said that fire authorities have urged higher standards and stricter enforcement of regulations.
The company noted that these pressures are encouraging adoption of advanced systems such as Taurus.
It explained that wireless technology can help improve compliance while offering flexibility for facilities operating in older or heritage buildings.
Comments from Hyfire and partners
Jayne Griffiths, Hyfire Regional Sales Manager, said: “Care Homes are a crucial part of our society, hosting some of our most vulnerable individuals, which is why it is paramount that these facilities are fitted with the most up-to-date fire alarm system.
“As Courtfield Lodge prides itself in continually providing patients with a homely, relaxed and secure environment, and Hyfire is glad it can actively support the safety of such an important structure.”
Gary Brumby, lead installer at Jackson Fire & Security Liverpool, which carried out the installation, commented: “Hyfire’s Taurus devices were the ideal solution to the Care Home’s needs.
“Thanks to the reliability of the system and the ease of installation, Courtfield Lodge can now benefit from a deeper level of security.”
Relevance for fire and safety professionals
The installation at Courtfield Lodge demonstrates how wireless systems are being adopted in care homes to address compliance requirements.
The project shows how technology can be integrated without disrupting daily operations in facilities with vulnerable residents.
For fire and safety professionals, this case highlights the role of regulatory inspections in driving upgrades and the potential of wireless systems to provide a practical solution.
It also shows the collaborative role of system manufacturers and local installers in delivering compliant fire safety solutions.
