IFE achieves registration milestone
The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) has reported that its Engineering Council register has surpassed 1,000 registrants.
IFE members applying for registration must meet the UK Standard for Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC) through peer review.
This process verifies competence and professional commitment, ensuring adherence to ethical practice and continued professional development (CPD).
Registration with the Engineering Council provides independent verification of competence, benefiting career progression and reinforcing professional credibility.
It also assures the public and stakeholders that registered fire engineers meet established standards of practice and conduct.
The role of professional registration
Individuals registered with the Engineering Council receive globally recognised post-nominals, highlighting their expertise and ethical commitment in the fire sector.
This milestone reflects the increasing recognition of fire engineering as a key discipline within public safety and infrastructure resilience.
Steve Hamm, CEO of IFE, said: “This reflects the dedication of our members in upholding the highest standards of professional competence and ethical conduct.
“Fire engineers are not only highly skilled but also committed to the ongoing development and ensuring that they remain at the forefront of the profession.”
Engineering Council’s perspective
The Engineering Council is responsible for maintaining professional engineering standards in the UK.
CEO Paul Bailey welcomed the achievement, stating: “Ensuring competence and safe, ethical practice is vital throughout the whole engineering profession.
“It is encouraging to see the increasing number of fire engineers choosing to become professionally registered and demonstrating their commitment to develop and apply their skills to protect people and planet at this time of rapid social and technological change.”
The milestone coincides with Chartered Week, taking place from 24 to 28 February.
The event will highlight the contributions of registered professionals in building public trust in engineering.
Ongoing development in fire engineering
The IFE continues to work alongside the Engineering Council to support fire engineers in achieving professional registration.
The evolving nature of fire engineering means that professionals must continually enhance their skills to meet industry demands.
The IFE, as a licensed body of the Engineering Council, ensures that registrants maintain professional standards, contributing to the advancement of fire safety and engineering.
