IFE launches new diversity and inclusion strategy
The Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) has announced its partnership with EqualEngineers to enhance the organisation’s approach to equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EEDI).
This collaboration is in line with the IFE’s new strategy aimed at fostering a more inclusive environment for its global membership.
The partnership marks the first step in a broader initiative to drive change across the fire sector.
A key action in this initiative is the launch of a survey inviting all IFE members to share their views and experiences related to diversity and inclusion.
The feedback from the survey will help shape future policies and initiatives that support the needs of the IFE membership.
Focus groups to be held in 2025
The survey results will form the foundation for a series of member-led focus groups, scheduled for 2025.
These focus groups will provide members with an opportunity to take an active role in advancing EEDI initiatives within the organisation and beyond.
The IFE sees these focus groups as essential in driving member involvement in shaping future policies that will impact the global fire sector.
The organisation aims to implement long-term changes that foster inclusivity and diversity within the profession.
Leadership comments on the collaboration
Steve Hamm, Chief Executive of the IFE, emphasised the importance of the initiative.
He said: “We are committed to ensuring that the IFE fosters a truly inclusive environment for all fire engineers.
“Working with our members, we will influence and implement lasting change across the sector on a global scale, to drive meaningful change and create a brighter, more equitable path forward for those within the fire profession.”
Dr Mark McBride-Wright, Founder and Managing Director of EqualEngineers, also expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership.
He said: “We’re really pleased to work alongside the Institution of Fire Engineers.
“As global leaders within the fire sector, their mission to enhance EEDI within their membership and the wider sector is truly fantastic and speaks volumes.”
Timeline for the diversity initiative
The survey launched to IFE members on 1st October, with details on how to participate being distributed this week.
The survey represents the initial step in gathering valuable insights from the membership, which will be crucial in shaping the next phase of the initiative.
Information on the upcoming focus groups will be shared in 2025.
The IFE’s collaboration with EqualEngineers reflects its commitment to driving diversity and inclusion within the fire sector, with plans to implement practical and measurable actions based on the survey results.
