Johnson Controls marks milestone in building safety and HVAC innovation
Johnson Controls has marked its 140th anniversary, reflecting on the development of building systems since its founding in 1885.
According to Johnson Controls, the company introduced the first automatic sprinkler and room thermostat, and now provides integrated fire protection, security systems and building control technologies.
It stated that its current offerings support customers throughout the lifecycle of buildings, from data centres to hospitals, education to industrial facilities.
CEO statement on 140th anniversary and future direction
Johnson Controls Chief Executive Officer Joakim Weidemanis said the anniversary provided an opportunity to recognise the company’s legacy and future development.
Joakim Weidemanis said: “This year marks a very special milestone for Johnson Controls, our 140th anniversary.
“And this anniversary is a chance for us to reflect on our journey.
“We are humbled by and grateful for those who came before us and feel the responsibility to forge ahead, accelerate solving our customers’ problems, and find new and better ways to advance technologies to make a difference.”
Joakim Weidemanis added: “It’s no doubt the secret to our longstanding success is our talented teams around the world and I thank our employees, customers and partners for their role in helping us reach this exciting milestone.

Johnson Controls reported that it delivers equipment and services to more than four million customers globally.
It stated that its offering spans heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), fire safety, security, and building automation.
The company said its portfolio is supported by digital capabilities, including internet of things integration, AI-based monitoring, and real-time data analysis.
Historical brand development and continued investment
Johnson Controls stated that some parts of its business, including the Grinnell and York brands, have histories extending beyond 150 years.
It added that the group holds nearly 8,000 patents and has invested billions of dollars in research and development in recent years.
The company noted that it delivers services from original design and engineering through to installation, maintenance, and upgrade of systems.
