London Fire Brigade’s new initiative to engage with communities

The London Fire Brigade is inviting Londoners to join its new Community Forum Steering Group.

As reported by London Fire Brigade, this initiative aims to enhance how the Brigade engages with local communities and gathers feedback from a diverse range of people.

The Community Forum, established in 2022, has played a vital role in the Brigade’s transformation by bringing together individuals to share their perspectives and influence services.

The Forum consists of 15 members representing various communities across London.

The new Steering Group will design local community forums to facilitate more personal and localised engagement.

These forums will enable the Brigade to ensure that more communities can voice their opinions and shape the services they receive.

Current Forum member transitions to Steering Group

Paul Bamford, a current member of the Community Forum, will be moving to the Steering Group.

He stated: “I joined the Forum to help London Fire Brigade better engage with communities, as well as to meet new people and develop my own personal skills.”

Bamford highlighted the benefits of his involvement, noting: “Being a member of the Forum has greatly enhanced my appreciation of London’s wonderfully diverse communities and has made me feel that collectively we are making a difference.”

He encouraged others to join, adding: “By joining the Steering Group, people can help ensure that all London’s communities are heard by the Brigade.”

Leadership emphasises community involvement

Deputy Commissioner for Preparedness and Response, Jonathan Smith, spoke on the importance of the new Steering Group.

Smith said: “The formation of the Steering Group represents the Brigade’s ongoing commitment to listening to local communities, including underrepresented groups, and improving our services for all.”

He elaborated on the benefits of community involvement: “By involving community members in our decision-making processes, we can create more effective and inclusive strategies that better serve all Londoners.”

Call for diverse applicants

The London Fire Brigade is seeking individuals from all backgrounds across London to join the Steering Group.

This opportunity allows participants to contribute to meaningful change, develop personal skills, and build new relationships while positively impacting London’s communities.

Interested individuals are encouraged to express their interest in joining this initiative to help shape the future of the Brigade’s services.
