Magirus acquires Achleitner to expand mission-critical vehicle portfolio
Agreement signed to acquire Achleitner Fahrzeugbau
Magirus GmbH has signed an agreement to acquire Achleitner Fahrzeugbau GmbH.
The acquisition was announced on Wednesday 1 October 2025.
Magirus, an international manufacturer of firefighting and disaster control technology, said the transaction aims to expand its portfolio and strengthen its position in the market for mission-critical vehicles.
The company said the deal combines Magirus’ expertise in firefighting technology with Achleitner’s experience in off-road and safety vehicles.
According to Magirus, the acquisition will create new growth opportunities and enhance its product range with robust, special-purpose vehicles designed for complex operating conditions.
Achleitner adds off-road and defence vehicle expertise
Magirus said the acquisition will expand its range to include customised vehicles built for challenging terrain and demanding security or defence environments.
Achleitner, based in Austria, is recognised for producing durable all-wheel-drive vehicles and armoured systems designed for extreme operating conditions.
Magirus stated that this strategic addition allows the company to serve customers requiring enhanced mobility and durability in mission-critical scenarios.
The company added that the integration of Achleitner’s engineering expertise with its own manufacturing capabilities will improve the variety of vehicles available to emergency and safety organisations worldwide.
CEO outlines goals of transformation plan
Fatmir Veselaj, Chief Executive Officer of Magirus, said: “The acquisition of Achleitner is the next important step in implementing our transformation plan to expand and strengthen Magirus in a targeted manner.”
“It also allows us to gain valuable expertise in the field of robust all-wheel drive and safety vehicles, which ideally complements our expertise in firefighting vehicle technology and creates additional capacity.”
“This will enable us to offer our customers an even broader range of special-purpose vehicles for all types of extreme and safety-related operations in the future and to continue on our growth path.”
Transaction expected to close in late 2025
Magirus said the transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to customary conditions.
The company added that further details on integration and product alignment will be announced following completion.
Magirus’ headquarters are located in Ulm, Germany.
Relevance for fire and safety professionals
This acquisition has potential implications for fire and rescue services, procurement officers and emergency fleet managers.
Magirus’ expansion into all-wheel-drive and armoured vehicles through the acquisition of Achleitner may lead to a wider selection of vehicles suited to operations in rough or off-road terrain.
Fire and rescue services operating in rural or mountainous regions could benefit from the combined capabilities of Magirus and Achleitner, particularly in areas where traditional firefighting vehicles face accessibility challenges.
Procurement teams may also see new options in mission-critical vehicle design as Magirus integrates Achleitner’s off-road and defence-focused expertise into its portfolio.
Emergency response agencies engaged in disaster control and complex security operations could find future vehicle offerings better aligned with demanding operational requirements.
