MSA to supply firefighter respiratory equipment to US Coast Guard

MSA Safety has been awarded a $33 million, 10-year contract by the US Coast Guard to supply new firefighter respiratory protective equipment.

The contract includes the provision of MSA’s G1 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) for use by the operational surface fleet and surface support facilities.

According to the company, initial orders valued at $22 million were received in the third quarter of 2024.

Features of the G1 SCBA equipment

The G1 SCBA platform includes multiple features designed to enhance safety and operational effectiveness for firefighters.

Among its features are a standard voice amplification system and radio interface for clear communication in challenging environments.

An ergonomic cylinder carrier and harness with an adjustable-swiveling waist belt aim to improve weight distribution and stability.

Additionally, the SCBA incorporates an advanced electronics platform powered by a single rechargeable battery.

This platform supports integrated telemetry and compatibility with MSA’s FireGrid software suite, enabling incident management and equipment monitoring.

Production of SCBA units underway in Pennsylvania

Production of the breathing apparatus units for the contract is taking place at MSA’s Murrysville, Pennsylvania, manufacturing facility.
