MSA Safety showcases new flame detector at NFPA Conference

This week at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference & Expo, MSA Safety, Inc. is debuting its latest solution to help protect people and facility infrastructures: the MSA General Monitors FL5000 Multi-Spectrum Flame Detector.

This new detector, along with MSA Safety’s leading gas and flame detection solutions portfolio, is on display at the NFPA Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida.

Attended by thousands of fire protection engineers, firefighters, building and facility managers, and safety professionals, the NFPA Conference & Expo provides these leaders with access to the latest safety innovations and educational opportunities.

Innovative features of the FL5000 flame detector

The FL5000 Flame Detector is the industry’s first optical flame detector with Bluetooth connectivity.

This feature allows users to wirelessly link to the flame detector for configuration and to perform diagnostic tests, enabling faster setup, easier detector status checks, and quicker access to event logs.

The FL5000 also features communications capabilities for automatic integration with plant processes and safety systems, enhancing the overall safety operations of a facility.

NFPA attendees can learn about the FL5000 Flame Detector’s unique features, including multiple infrared detectors and an advanced flame detection algorithm using three artificial neural networks.

These networks process signals to identify potential hazards and distinguish between dangerous flames and common false alarm sources, such as lightning and sunlight reflections.

The detector has Factor Mutual performance verification for 22 common fuel types in the petrochemical and other process industries.

It can detect fires up to 310 feet (95 meters) away and has a built-in self-check system that performs optical and electrical checks every two minutes.

In addition to the FL5000 Flame Detector, MSA Safety is highlighting a range of gas and flame detection solutions.
