NFPA and Aramco formalise agreement on fire safety collaboration

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Aramco have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop fire, electrical, and life safety regulations within Saudi Arabia’s energy and petrochemical sectors.

As reported by the NFPA, the agreement was signed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, by Sami A. Ajmi, Aramco’s Vice President (A) of Fire Protection, and Jim Pauley, NFPA’s President and CEO.

The MoU aims to enhance fire safety standards in the Kingdom by promoting education and the exchange of fire-related data and expertise.

The collaboration will focus on knowledge transfer, research, and the implementation of innovative fire prevention technologies.

Both organisations plan to develop comprehensive training and certification programs to establish global standards within Saudi Arabia’s energy sector.

Shared goals in fire protection and knowledge transfer

The partnership between NFPA and Aramco highlights a shared commitment to reducing fire and electrical risks while enhancing operational safety in the energy industry.

The MoU represents a strategic effort to improve safety through collaboration, data exchange, and the introduction of best practices.

The collaboration will explore advanced fire prevention technologies and their application to real-world scenarios.

Both parties have committed to research and training aimed at establishing fire protection protocols that will be adopted across the Kingdom’s energy sector.

The NFPA’s Fire & Life Safety Ecosystemâ„¢ framework will play a key role in assessing fire data and its impact on society, informing future safety measures.

Commitment to global safety standards

Jim Pauley, President and CEO of NFPA, emphasised the broader industry implications of the partnership.

He said: “This collaboration will not only raise the safety standards in the Kingdom but also serve as a catalyst for industry-wide improvements.”

Aramco’s participation in the development of NFPA standards signifies a deeper involvement in shaping the global fire safety landscape.

Many Aramco employees serve as principal members of NFPA standard committees, contributing directly to the creation of new standards.

Aramco’s role in fostering collaboration

Sami A. Ajmi highlighted the importance of the MoU to Aramco’s Fire Protection’s Global Participation Program.

He said: “This MoU was a major milestone in Fire Protection’s Global Participation Program, in which one of the goals is to contribute to global fire safety and foster collaboration and information exchange.”

The partnership is expected to extend beyond regulatory development, focusing on creating a culture of safety through education, certification, and the implementation of new technologies.

Both organisations aim to position Saudi Arabia as a leader in fire safety within the global energy and petrochemical industries.
