Light Science Technologies’ passive fire protection division achieves Building Safety Act accreditation
Accreditation strengthens Building Safety Act compliance
Light Science Technologies Holdings has announced that its Passive Fire Protection (PFP) division has achieved accreditation under the Building Safety Act 2022 via Construction Online.
The company said Construction Online’s recently launched BS 8670 accreditation process streamlines supplier pre-qualification and aims to reduce supply chain delays in the construction sector.
By completing this accreditation, the PFP division has demonstrated full competence in both Standard Construction and Higher Risk Buildings above 18 metres, aligning with BS 8670 requirements.
The company added that the accreditation complements its existing Gold Accreditation and validates its expertise in safety leadership, risk management and fire/life protection.
According to the company, the achievement reinforces confidence from both the Building Safety Regulator and customers.
PFP division builds on growth since 2023 launch
Since its launch in November 2023, the PFP division has completed work on 16 buildings and secured £3.2 million in orders.
Light Science Technologies confirmed that its quoted pipeline currently stands at approximately £28 million.
The company said its active projects in Manchester, Southampton and Birmingham position the division to benefit from growing demand as the Building Safety Regulator continues to address delays within the sector.
CEO highlights readiness for regulatory transition
Simon Deacon, Chief Executive Officer of Light Science Technologies, said: “These accreditations reinforce our ability to deliver safe, compliant solutions for our customers.
“It also allows us to speed up supply chain approvals and reduce delays across the industry.
“As the sector adapts to the new regulations, our PFP division is ready to move quickly, supporting contractors and unlocking projects.
“We believe that these accreditations will simplify processes for existing and potential customers and the PFP division is primed for rapid and sustained growth.
“As such, this recognition will support further contract wins and partnerships, cementing our position as a trusted leader in passive fire protection.”
Relevance for fire and safety professionals
The accreditation of Light Science Technologies’ Passive Fire Protection division under the Building Safety Act 2022 has implications for building owners, fire engineers, contractors and compliance managers working on higher risk residential and mixed-use buildings.
The BS 8670 accreditation confirms that the division meets competence standards for both Standard Construction and Higher Risk Buildings above 18 metres, giving assurance of compliance with national safety regulations.
For fire-protection contractors and building services engineers, this development indicates a potential easing of supply chain delays linked to project approvals and certification bottlenecks.
It also reflects the growing importance of verified competence under the Building Safety Regulator’s oversight, which directly affects specification, installation and inspection of passive fire-protection systems in high-rise environments.
