Fire suppression system installed in Devon home to protect resident with disability

A family in Beer, Devon, has incorporated Plumis’ Automist fire suppression system into their new home to enhance fire safety for their 20-year-old daughter, who is living with a disability.

The system, designed to provide targeted fire suppression while using minimal water, was selected to ensure safe navigation throughout the home in the event of a fire.

The family aimed to balance safety and aesthetics in their home’s design, making Automist’s discreet installation and water efficiency a suitable choice.

Automist, a water mist fire suppression system, operates using just 5.6 litres of water per minute compared to the 80 litres required by traditional sprinklers.

It uses infrared tracking technology to detect and suppress fires at their source, reducing water damage and enhancing safety.

The system was installed by Chilman Fire and Security, an authorised Automist installer.

The company worked closely with the family to identify risk areas and ensure the system’s seamless integration into the home’s design.

Homeowner and installer comment on fire safety installation

Nick, the homeowner, said: “The Automist system offers us an incredible sense of reassurance.

“It’s one of those things you hope never to use, but knowing it’s there is priceless.

“The peace of mind it gives me as a parent is extraordinary – especially when it comes to knowing that my daughter is safer in her living space.

“Chilman Fire and Security were fantastic throughout the entire process. We couldn’t have asked for more.”

Toby Chilman, Director at Chilman Fire and Security, added: “It was a pleasure to work with Nick and his family on this project.

“Every home is unique, and we pride ourselves on designing bespoke fire suppression systems that meet each client’s specific requirements.

“The Automist system is a fantastic choice for residential properties – we’re delighted to see how well it integrates into the family’s new home while providing the safety and peace of mind they were looking for.”

Automist system integrates into modern home design

The installation of the system highlights the role of modern fire suppression technology in residential projects, particularly for families with specific safety concerns.

The system’s design allows for discreet integration into contemporary homes while providing effective fire suppression.

Chilman Fire and Security worked with the family to tailor the system to their needs, ensuring that all areas, including shared spaces, were adequately covered.

The collaboration between the family and the installer ensured that fire safety measures complemented the home’s layout and aesthetic.
