Serco space academy offers specialised training in the Middle East

Serco has launched its new Space Academy, a training programme aimed at preparing individuals and organisations for roles in the global space industry.

As reported by Serco, the academy builds on Serco’s 60 years of operational experience and is open to applicants based in the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The curriculum covers key areas of space industry knowledge and skills, with a focus on supporting local talent as part of regional initiatives such as Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

The academy will offer a broad range of training services covering technical disciplines such as Earth observation, satellite communications, and spacecraft operations.

It will also include space business modules, focusing on areas like the new space economy and innovation.

Expansion follows success of Saudi graduate programme

The Space Academy is an expansion of Serco’s previous Saudi Graduate Space Programme, which launched in 2023.

This programme aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals and aimed to develop Saudi Arabia’s first space engineers.

The programme has been instrumental in building a foundation for the Kingdom’s space sector, contributing to the recruitment and development of space professionals.

Serco’s broader Space Academy will continue this work, offering opportunities for participants to train at leading space facilities in Europe.

Amar Vora, Head of Space for Serco Middle East, said: “The launch of Serco’s Space Academy is a testament to our commitment to supporting space initiatives here in the Middle East.

“By empowering local professionals with access to world-class training and expertise, we are enabling them to take on leading roles in the rapidly growing space sector.”

Training tailored for space industry professionals

The academy’s training programmes will be delivered by experts with decades of experience in the space industry.

Participants will receive both theoretical and hands-on training in areas such as ground segment operations, satellite navigation, and space engineering management.

Training will be tailored to suit different levels of expertise, from advanced university students to experienced professionals.

Programmes can also be customised for organisations looking to upskill their workforce, ensuring that learning outcomes can be applied directly to industry challenges.

Serco’s commitment to fostering local talent and technological innovation is evident through the academy’s efforts to align with both Saudi and UAE space ambitions.

Graduate success stories in the region

Sarah AlHabbas, the first graduate of the Saudi Graduate Space Programme, recently became certified as a Space Operations Engineer.

She trained at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Germany, under Serco’s Copernicus Operations Support Services (COP-2) programme.

Commenting on her experience, AlHabbas said: “My training with Serco has provided me with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, giving me the opportunity to work with cutting-edge solutions that are shaping the aerospace industry.

“Receiving a certification that is recognised by the prestigious European Space Agency (ESA) validates my expertise and supports the goals of Vision 2030.”

Serco’s Space Academy will continue to offer such opportunities to aspiring professionals, helping them gain the skills needed to contribute to national and regional space projects.
