SFPE announces registration for 2025 event in Canada

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has announced that registration is now open for its 2025 Annual Conference & Expo.

According to SFPE, the event will take place from 21 to 23 October at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The conference will coincide with the Society’s 75th anniversary.

The organisation stated that the conference will bring together engineers and professionals from across the fire protection and fire safety sectors.

It added that attendees will be able to access more than 14 hours of accredited professional development content.

Presentations, keynote and panels confirmed for conference

SFPE reported that this year’s conference will feature over 50 technical presentations.

Topics will include building design, battery fires, wildland urban interface risks, structural fire engineering, emerging infrastructure technologies and case studies.

Additional sessions will address human behaviour, fire modelling, AI and digitalisation in fire safety engineering.

The conference keynote will be delivered by Fire Chief and General Manager of the City of Vancouver, Karen Fry.

According to SFPE, a panel on Single Egress Design will be featured, along with poster sessions and dedicated content on SFPE Foundation research.

SFPE to honour award recipients at anniversary event

As reported by SFPE, the 2025 event will also include the presentation of its annual awards.

These awards will recognise recipients for their work in engineering, research, education and service to the fire safety profession.

The organisation confirmed that both SFPE and SFPE Foundation award winners will be honoured during the event.

This will form part of the Society’s wider 75th anniversary celebrations.

It added that this milestone marks “seven and a half decades of advancing the science and practice of fire protection engineering worldwide”.

Strategic goals and global standards to be addressed

Amanda Kimball, PE, FSFPE, 2025 SFPE President and Committee Chair, said: “The SFPE Annual Conference & Expo continues to serve as the premier event for advancing the science and practice of fire protection engineering.”

She continued:
“This year, as we celebrate 75 years of SFPE’s leadership in the field, we will explore the next generation of performance-based design, fire modeling, risk analysis, and emerging technologies.”
“In addition to delivering high-caliber technical content, we’ll provide critical updates on SFPE’s strategic plan, which is focused on strengthening global engineering standards, elevating professional competency, and expanding the Society’s international impact.”

Chris Jelenewicz, PE, FSFPE, Chief Executive Officer of SFPE, added: “On top of the opportunities to build their professional network, fire protection engineers consistently remark to me how much they learn when attending SFPE events.”

He continued:
“We’ve lined up some of the sharpest minds in fire protection engineering at our conference and pre-conference seminars, plus the top companies in our industry to showcase their newest products and services.”
“I encourage each and every fire protection engineering professional to join us.”

Expo Hall and technical seminars to support learning

SFPE confirmed that a three-day Expo Hall will run throughout the conference.

More than 50 companies will exhibit new technologies and fire safety solutions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet suppliers and explore current innovations in the sector.

The organisation also noted that pre-conference seminars will be offered following the main programme.

These optional seminars are open to both registered conference attendees and non-attendees seeking technical training.

Discounted early registration is available until 9 September 2025.
