Siemens has announced new capabilities for cloud-connected fire safety systems in the UK, highlighting their use in minimising disruption in public spaces.

According to Siemens, traditional maintenance of fire safety equipment can interfere with regular building operations due to audible and visual alarms and technician visits.

To address this, the company has introduced devices that perform automatic checks without human input, supported by Internet of Things (IoT) functionality and cloud integration.

Siemens said its ASA detectors with DFT (Disturbance Free Testing) technology now allow for remote, silent performance testing, reducing the need for frequent physical inspections.

These systems are designed to support annual on-site checks while performing interim evaluations remotely to ensure consistent functionality.

Remote access and secure data transfer

Siemens explained that cloud gateways enable secure connections between fire safety devices and remote monitoring platforms.

This includes Building X Fire Apps, which consist of the Fire Manager desktop interface and a suite of mobile applications for Android and iOS.

According to the company, these tools allow users to access live system status and testing data from any location, replicating the information available from on-site fire panels.

The data collected includes function test results, detector contamination levels and hazard status, which is transmitted to the cloud in real time.

Siemens said this provides a complete overview of system performance without requiring staff to be physically present on site.
