The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the world’s leading professional society for fire protection and fire safety engineering, has named Chris Jelenewicz, PE, FSFPE, as Interim Chief Executive Officer. Jelenewicz has been a member of SFPE’s staff since 2004 and succeeds Nicole Boston, CAE, who served as SFPE’s Chief Executive Officer from October 2013 through April 2023.

Jelenewicz is a licensed professional engineer in fire protection engineering and holds degrees in fire protection engineering and management from the University of Maryland. He has most recently served as the Society’s Chief Engineer and is a Fellow of SFPE.

Jelenewicz is a well-respected and trusted industry leader and will be responsible for the Society’s staff and programs, including the two upcoming SFPE engineering solutions symposia, the SFPE Annual Conference & Expo, and the sixth edition of the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering, set to release later this year.

“We thank Nicole for her nearly ten-year commitment to SFPE and the fire protection engineering profession, and wish her success in all of her future endeavours,” said Jimmy J├Ânsson, FSFPE, President of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.

He added: “With several major initiatives on the horizon and as we near completion of a new strategic plan, the SFPE Board of Directors firmly believes that Chris is the right person to strengthen the Society, focus our efforts in support of the SFPE mission, and best serve the needs of our 5,100+ member community.”
