Conference to explore regulation, smoke control and fire strategy
The Tall Buildings Fire Safety Network has confirmed the agenda for the 9th International Tall Building HRB Fire Safety Conference, taking place on 18 and 19 June 2025 at Olympia London.
According to the organisation, the two-day event will be held alongside the Blue Light Show and will focus on emerging issues in high-rise fire safety, with several sessions highlighting regulatory changes in the United Kingdom.
The first day of the conference includes presentations on smoke toxicity in relation to Grenfell Tower, artificial intelligence in fire strategy development, and the optimal placement of firefighting outlets in stairwells.
Additional talks on 18 June will address common misconceptions in smoke control systems, use of smoke hoods, and updates to fire safety standards.
Day two to cover golden thread, insurance and evacuation
The Tall Buildings Fire Safety Network has stated that the second day of the event will feature presentations on the management of the golden thread and fire safety competence, the Building Safety Register, and insurance developments.
Sessions will also cover tenant engagement, door closer failures and electrical safety risks such as broken neutral faults in tall buildings.
Tim Gates will present findings on the potential use of standard passenger lifts for evacuation in residential towers, while Professor Ed Galea will close the day with a presentation on new methods in façade fire testing and modelling.
A panel discussion led by the Building Safety Regulator will open the day’s events.
Conference to include expert-led panel discussions
The Tall Buildings Fire Safety Network confirmed that each day will begin with a panel discussion involving experts from architecture, engineering and regulation.
Speakers include representatives from the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Building Safety Regulator, and academic institutions.
These sessions will address current challenges in building design and regulatory alignment across the high-rise fire safety sector.
Presentations to highlight technical solutions in fire safety
Several sessions at the conference will focus on technical innovations aimed at improving fire safety in high-rise buildings.
Topics include smoke hood deployment, performance of façade systems, and the integration of artificial intelligence into fire strategy planning.
These presentations are intended to reflect current developments in fire engineering, operational preparedness, and emerging technologies.
Professional training courses confirmed for 2025
The Tall Buildings Fire Safety Network has also announced upcoming dates for its five-day professional course on Tall Building Fire Safety Management.
The organisation confirmed that training will take place in Cyprus from 26 to 30 May, and in London from 23 to 27 June.
