Sustainable security in urban planning
Sustainable security design is becoming a cornerstone of urban development in the UAE.
The approach integrates advanced technologies, environmental considerations, and aesthetic design, aligning with the nation’s ambitious sustainability goals.
This will be a central theme at the Security Leaders’ Summit, part of Intersec 2025, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 14-16 January.
Simon Whitehouse, Director of Security Consultancy at SGW – Powered by AESG, explained the concept’s significance: “Sustainable security design goes beyond asset protection. It integrates security measures with the architectural and environmental elements of a project, creating spaces that are secure yet aligned with sustainability objectives.”
Security regulations and innovations in the UAE
The UAE has set global benchmarks in sustainable security practices by adhering to standards such as the Security Industry Regulations Agency (SIRA) and MCC regulations.
These frameworks encourage the use of energy-efficient technologies, including IP cameras with Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) and smart energy systems.
Whitehouse highlighted the success of Masdar City in Abu Dhabi: “The use of solar-powered CCTV cameras and smart access control systems contributes to both security and the overall sustainability goals of the development.”
Exploring global security threats
Intersec 2025 will also examine the shifting landscape of global security threats.
Kearney, the Strategic Intelligence Partner, will host a keynote session titled ‘The Evolution of Security Threats’.
The session, led by Rudolph Lohmeyer, Senior Partner at Kearney, will delve into historical and emerging security challenges.
Grant Tuchten, Portfolio Director at Messe Frankfurt Middle East, commented on the summit’s goals: “Our goal with the Security Leaders’ Summit at Intersec 2025 is to foster meaningful discussions that redefine industry standards and inspire new strategies.”
Transformative technologies and industry leaders
The Commercial & Perimeter Security section will highlight advanced technologies enhancing business and property safety.
This includes AI innovations for smart cities from Johnson Controls and PwC, as well as green security technologies from Dell and Intel. Bosch and Hikvision will showcase data-driven solutions, while IP-based surveillance systems from Avigilon and Uniview will also be featured.
Other exhibitors include Hanwha Vision and Axis, presenting Wide Dynamic Range cameras, and HID, Salto, and Honeywell, offering advanced access control systems.
