Delivery of LF 10 KatS vehicles in Germany

Ziegler has reported that three LF 10 KatS fire trucks have been delivered to the Kassel fire department as part of the twelfth procurement campaign of the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, Security and Homeland Security.

According to the company, the vehicles will be deployed to the Harleshausen, Niederzwehren and Wolfsanger departments.

It said that the delivery is intended to strengthen the operational readiness of the Kassel fire service.

The manufacturer explained that the trucks are based on a MAN TGM 13.290 4×4 chassis with a 3,950 mm wheelbase and a 213 kW (290 HP) engine.

It added that with a gross vehicle weight of 14 tons and dimensions of 7,300 × 2,500 × 3,300 mm, the LF 10 KatS provides compact handling for demanding conditions.

Technical systems and vehicle structure

Ziegler stated that the new trucks are equipped with its ALPAS superstructure system of the latest generation.

It said the vehicles include the Z-Cab for a crew of nine and are operated using the Z-Control interface designed for ease of use and operational safety.

The company reported that each vehicle includes a centrifugal pump FPN 10-2000-1H with a 1,200 litre water tank fitted with drinking water protection.

It added that an Ultra Power portable fire pump is also included in the package.

Safety and lighting features

According to Ziegler, the LF 10 KatS trucks incorporate multiple safety features.

It outlined that these include Z-Vision LED ambient lighting, a pneumatic light mast with eight LED spotlights, and a hybrid flasher and warning system.

The manufacturer said manoeuvring lights on the exterior mirrors and a turn-off assistant have been installed to improve road safety.

It added that a self-protection system with eight ground spray nozzles and power supply through RETTBOX ONE AIR are part of the build.

Crew comfort and hygiene systems

Ziegler reported that the vehicles are fitted with the PUSH hygiene board to support routine operations.

It stated that an engine-independent auxiliary hot air heater provides heating for the crew area during winter tasks.

The company noted that further details include a foot switch for acoustic warning devices and a storage box between the driver and passenger seats.

Local design element

The manufacturer explained that each truck features a fluorescent design sticker representing the Hercules monument, a landmark of Kassel.

It said this addition provides a visual link between the vehicles and the city.

Relevance for fire and safety professionals

The procurement demonstrates how state-level investment can enhance local fire service capabilities.

For professionals, the integration of ergonomic crew space, intuitive controls and updated safety systems shows how manufacturers are adapting to operational needs.

The addition of hygiene and comfort systems reflects the growing emphasis on occupational health in vehicle design.

The case also highlights the use of local cultural symbols in fire truck design, which may influence community identity and recognition.
