Ziegler supplies forest fire package-equipped HLF-W 4×4 to Netherlands

Ziegler Brandweertechniek B.V. has delivered the first HLF-W 4×4 firefighting vehicle with a forest fire package to the Dutch safety region Noord- en Oost-Gelderland (VNOG).

The vehicle is part of a contract signed in September 2022 for 75 firefighting vehicles of various configurations.

Sixteen HLF 4×2 vehicles have already been delivered, with the remaining units scheduled for staged deliveries until 2026.

The HLF-W is built on a Volvo FMX 420 4×4 chassis and is equipped with the Ziegler Z-Cab XL, which includes roof hatches for improved operating conditions.

A front-mounted LED light strip providing 20,000 lumens is included for enhanced visibility.

Features of the HLF-W 4×4 firefighting vehicle

The vehicle has a 4,300 mm wheelbase and a 3,700-litre water tank to support firefighting operations.

The Ziegler FPN 10-3000-2H low-pressure pump ensures a stable water supply.

It is also equipped with an ALCO APF 1DC 450 front turret capable of delivering up to 1,000 litres per minute and two manually controlled roof turrets.

For enhanced maneuverability, the pump operates through a power take-off (PTO) system and can switch to a secondary hydraulic drive when in pump-and-roll mode.

The inclusion of Volvo’s i-Shift transmission with crawler gear supports performance in various conditions.

Additional firefighting capabilities

The HLF-W includes front spray nozzles, a hydraulically folding rear step for off-road use, and a pressure-reduced water outlet at the rear.

A rapid intervention unit with a 60-metre hose delivers 250 litres per minute at six bar pressure.

A lighting mast producing 30,000 lumens is also integrated, alongside an electric-hydraulic ladder removal system and a tire pressure regulation system to enhance operational efficiency.

Deployment in Noord- en Oost-Gelderland

VNOG serves a population of more than 870,000 across 3,000 km².

The new HLF-W 4×4 firefighting vehicle is part of the region’s efforts to improve response capabilities for wildfires and other emergencies.

The staged delivery of additional vehicles will continue over the next year to expand the fleet’s capabilities.
