Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has implemented a new mobilising system designed to enhance the speed, efficiency, and resilience of its incident response.

The modernised system aims to integrate the full spectrum of current and prospective needs to further improve the vital emergency service system.

Mobilising system’s role in incident response

Chief Fire and Rescue Officer Callum Faint emphasised the value of the investment: “This investment in the latest mobilising system is a significant step forward in our commitment to create ‘Safer People and Safer Places’.”

He shed light on the demands of emergency call handling, highlighting the pressures that control room operators face: “Our control room is integral to our emergency response capabilities; call handlers operate in fast-moving and uncertain environments.

“They need to be able to gather vital information when a member of the public has made an emergency call and quickly relay the details to response teams, to help to ensure their safety as they work to protect the public.”

Motorola Solutions has provided the new system, which is expected to be a transformative addition to Leicestershire’s emergency response toolkit.

The control room will now be able to synthesise information from various data sources more effectively, facilitated by the integration of real-time data from on-scene devices and supported by VideoManager, a tool for managing bulk data storage efficiently.

Enhancing collaboration and data sharing between services

The new system bolsters the capabilities for improved data sharing and operation flexibility, which is especially beneficial during high-pressure situations involving multiple incidents simultaneously.

This enhancement is part of the Service’s strategy to strengthen collaboration and support mutual aid with other fire services in times of high demand.

The transition to the new system is scheduled for the summer of 2024, with ongoing collaboration between Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Motorola Solutions.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is now in preparation to bring the system online, reaffirming its dedication to serving the community with advanced technology solutions.

IFSJ Comment

The upgrade of Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s mobilising system is a significant development in emergency service technology deployment.

A modernised mobilising system can drastically improve the responsiveness of fire services, benefiting both emergency responders and the public.

By enabling quick data access and transfer, such systems reduce the time lag between emergency detection and response, which can be critical in saving lives and property.

Enhancements like these exemplify the ongoing evolution in fire and rescue operations, integrating cutting-edge technology with existing protocols to meet the growing complexity of emergencies.

It represents a commendable commitment to public safety and inter-agency cooperation.
