ASFP to gather experts for passive fire protection seminar

The Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) is set to host a comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminar focusing on passive fire protection (PFP) at the Aviva Centre in Stoke Gifford, Bristol, on Tuesday, 12th March 2024.

The seminar aims to unite experts from the ASFP and other distinguished guest speakers to discuss and share best practices in the design and installation of PFP systems.

The day will commence with registration at 9.15 am, followed by an opening address by ASFP Managing Director Mike Ward at 10 am.

The ASFP’s Technical and Regulatory Affairs Officer, Niall Rowan, will start the morning session with a detailed introduction to PFP, covering essential concepts, materials, and regulations guiding the industry.

ASFP expert insights on design and safety

The morning session will continue with a focus on design best practices.

Mark Wilson from the Health and Safety Executive will highlight the importance of early fire safety consideration in design, underlining the requirements of Planning Gateway One.

This will be complemented by insights from Will Pitt and Amritha Achuthan of Laing O’Rourke, who will address the challenges faced in PFP design and specification from a Tier 1 contractor’s perspective.

A question and answer session will conclude the morning’s discussions.

The afternoon session, introduced by ASFP Technical Officer Stuart Southall, will feature Ben Oram from architects Buckley Gray Yeoman, discussing PFP considerations for designers and the industry’s challenges.

Graeme Whitty of Willmott Dixon will emphasise the crucial role of coordination in successful project delivery.

Michael Hicks from Onetrace will share perspectives on the PFP industry from a software provider’s standpoint.

Dr Andrew Taylor, the ASFP’s Head of Technical, will round off the presentations with a comprehensive overview of regulatory changes impacting the PFP installation process.

The seminar will conclude with a panel Q&A session at 2.45 pm.
