Global engineering and consulting leader Jensen Hughes has announced its acquisition of Warringtonfire Australia, a prominent fire safety engineering and testing consultancy.

This move is part of Jensen Hughes’s strategic expansion in Australia and New Zealand, following its previous acquisitions of BCA Logic and MGAC.

Expansion in the Australian market

Warringtonfire Australia, previously a part of Element Materials Technology, has established itself as a leading firm in Australia since its formation.

The company evolved following the acquisition of the Fire Testing Laboratory business from Exova and Defire’s Fire Safety Engineering operation in 2017.

The acquisition by Jensen Hughes marks a significant carve-out from Element’s international operations, focusing solely on the Australian business.

Strengthening expertise and presence

Jason Jeffress, the Divisional Director of Warringtonfire Australia, leads a robust management team.

The integration into Jensen Hughes brings 85 employees, five consulting locations, and a Fire Testing Laboratory in Victoria into the Jensen Hughes global framework.

Jeffress highlights the benefits of this partnership, noting the enhanced service opportunities through the combination of Jensen Hughes’s fire safety expertise and its expansive network in Australia and New Zealand.

A strategic win-win acquisition

Raj Arora, CEO of Jensen Hughes, emphasises the importance of this acquisition in strengthening their core service mix.

He points out that the addition of Warringtonfire Australia, with its NATA and ISO-accredited Fire Testing Laboratory, significantly enhances their capabilities in fire safety engineering.

Arora expresses his enthusiasm in welcoming the Warringtonfire Australia team to the Jensen Hughes family, seeing it as a mutually beneficial move for both entities.

IFSJ Comment

The acquisition of Warringtonfire Australia by Jensen Hughes represents a pivotal moment in the fire safety engineering sector, especially in the Australia-New Zealand region.

This strategic move not only strengthens Jensen Hughes’s position as a global leader in fire safety but also highlights the growing importance of specialised expertise in this field.

The integration of Warringtonfire Australia’s skilled workforce and accredited facilities underlines a commitment to advancing fire safety standards and providing comprehensive solutions to clients.

It reflects a trend towards consolidation in the industry, where larger, globally-networked firms are better positioned to offer a wider range of services and more advanced solutions.

This acquisition is likely to set a precedent for future mergers and acquisitions in the fire safety engineering sector, signaling a shift towards more integrated, comprehensive service offerings.
