NFPA offers free resources to address fire risks from lithium-ion batteries

During National Electrical Safety Month, the focus from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is on educating consumers about the potential dangers of lithium-ion batteries and offering guidance on their safe usage, charging, and storage.

The campaign, supported by the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI), aims to enhance public awareness of electrical hazards, the significance of electrical fire safety, and electrical worker safety throughout May.

“During Electrical Safety Month, NFPA is taking action to help educate the public about ways they can protect their lithium-ion battery-powered devices and vehicles and safeguard their families and property.”

These are accessible through dedicated sections on their website, focusing on general lithium-ion safety, as well as specific considerations for e-bikes, e-scooters, and electric vehicles.

Furthermore, NFPA provides training and materials for emergency personnel on handling fires involving alternative fuel vehicles, highlighting their commitment to comprehensive safety education and resource provision.
