Tony Hanley: A career dedicated to fire safety and innovation
Tony Hanley shared his feelings about the accolade: “It’s a nice thing being recognised by my peers and given this award.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have served the industry for well over 35 years now, also to have been awarded the recognition for my 16 years of voluntary contribution to the trade association and the industry in general.
“I have seen a lot of positive change, which in my eyes still has a way to go, but things are moving slowly but surely in the right direction.”
His tenure at FirePro UK is marked by his successful re-election for eight consecutive two-year terms as a volunteer board director.
Advocacy for industry competency and inclusion
At the FIA’s annual general meeting luncheon in London, attended by over 500 fire industry professionals and guests, Hanley received a standing ovation for his service and dedication.
He reflected on his long association with the FIA, noting, “My time with the trade association goes way back over 25 years now.
“There were a number of things that I wanted to help improve and create change, so I put myself up for election sixteen years ago.”
He has been a vocal advocate for competency within the industry, contributing to the Hackitt review following the Grenfell tragedy and urging engagement from all sectors of the community.
FirePro UK: Leading by example
Under Hanley’s leadership, FirePro UK has not only introduced an innovative fire suppression product to the UK & Ireland market but also emphasised the importance of competency through the LPS 1204 3.2 scheme.
The company has an impressive case study library, showcasing successful projects across various industries, including high-profile names like Lloyds of London, Tayside Ninewells NHS, and Tottenham Hotspur F.C.
Supporting diversity and sustainability in the fire industry
FirePro UK is also active in promoting diversity within the traditionally male-dominated fire industry.
